Для вольных путешествий велосипед подходит лучше прочих транспортных средств по многим причинам. Велосипед оставляет путешественнику полную независимость. Это самый простой, дешевый и эффективный способ побывать в других местах.(1) Это чудо техники позволяет всего за пару дней увидеть очень много! (2)

В Новосибирске и области много людей, которые любят ездить на велосипедах на ближние и дальние расстояния. Среди этих людей много профессионалов, но гораздо больше любителей. Такие люди объединяются в клубы, но это необязательно официально зарегистрированные организации занимающиеся велопоездками. Чаще это спонтанное объединение велолюбителей, кооридинующее свои действия через свой сайт и электронную почту.

На сайтах этих клубов можно найти информацию о проверенных маршрутах по городу и области. И конечно, можно присоединиться к ним на каком-нибудь выезде на природу. На сайтах собраны отчеты о велопутешествиях, совершенных с участием новосибирских велотуристов.

Объекты велотуризма

Обское водохранилище, Заельцовский бор, Бугринская роща, Кудряшовский бор, Вагановский сосновый бор, предгорья Салаирского кряжа, Красный Яр, Колывань и другие. Часто маршруты велотуристов пролегают и с переходом на соседние области: Томскую и Кемеровскую (Копна — двуглавая вершина 509 м). Велосипедные походы возможны в Степном районе (см. Туристское зонирование). Кроме того, покататься на горном велосипеде можно в специально оборудованных для этого спусках. Например, часть горнолыжных трасс на лето переоборудуют в велотреки («Юрманка», «Новососедово», «Горский» и др.).
