Почтово-телеграфная контора — важнейший объект коммуникационной инфраструктуры Московско-Сибирского тракта второй половины XIX века — до нашего времени используется по своему назначению. На ее фасаде мемориальная доска: «В мае 1890 года проездом на Сахалин А. П. Чехов останавливался в Колывани».
