Старинное сибирское село, бывшее центром Карпысацкой волости и знаменитое прежде своими ежегодными ярмарками, сегодня известно еще и одним из красивейших водоемов области — Карпысакским прудом. В конце 1970-х годов в восточной части села на реке Буготак на средства жителей построена земляная плотина, образовавшая пруд. Его длина 900 м, ширина 300 м, а глубина 4 м. Место для рыбалки отменное: попадаются карпы такой величины, что не выдерживают снасти. С севера и с востока пруд окружен сосновым лесом паркового типа с выходом скальных пород и обилием грибов.
